How to Fix Internet Connection Error 619?

Internet connection error 619 may be generated when you attempt to connect to the Internet on a Microsoft Windows XP computer. When the error occurs, the connection may fail and you will not be able to browse the Internet.

Cause of the Error

There may be several causes of this error. Some the most common ones are given below:

* A third-party program, such as Download Accelerator or Zone Alarm that is not releasing the Winsock stack after performing a particular Internet activity.
* There is a problem with the access numbers of your Internet Server Provider, such as NetZero.
* There is a problem with your modem.
* You are unable to connect your DSL modem through a router, such as a LinkSys router.

Resolution Methods

Most of the time, the error resolves automatically after you restart your computer. If it does not, then depending on the cause, use one of the following methods to fix error 618 problems:

Method 1: Uninstall the third-party program

You may workaround the issue by uninstalling the third-party program that is causing the error.

You may also contact your third-party product manufacturer for any available resolution to the problem.

Method 2: Uninstall the third-party program

If your ISP, such as NetZero has provided you with multiple access numbers, try all of them to make the connection. You may also attempt to use any long distance number, if available to see if it helps you resolve the issue temporarily.

There might be some changes that you may need to make to your dial up configuration according to your local telephony service provider. Some of these changes might be:

* Select the local dialing number according to the place where you are accessing the ISP from.
* Disable call waiting.
* Add any custom prefix or suffix number to the ISP number, if required.
* Ensure with the local telephone company that the numbers you are using to dial to your ISP are local numbers.

Method 3: Remove, reinstall, and then configure your modem

1. Open Device Manager.
2. Expand Modems.
3. Right-click on your modem and select Uninstall.

Note: Use a registry tool, such as RegGenie, to clean your registry and remove any left behind modem entries.
4. Restart your PC.
5. Your system will automatically scan for new hardware and install the new modem. You may need to insert the Windows XP setup or the modem driver CD to make the driver files available to the modem driver installation process.
6. Open Control Panel.
7. Select Network and Internet Connections and then select Phone and Modems in the left pane.
8. Open the Modems tab in the Phone and Modems dialog box.
9. Select your modem and then click Properties.
10. On the Diagnostics tab, click on the Query Modem button.
11. Review the results to ensure that your modem is configured properly. If, there are errors, you may click the Troubleshoot… button on the General tab to launch the Modem troubleshooting wizard and resolve the problem.
12. After you have configured the modem according to your ISP, try to connect to your ISP to ensure that it is working.

Method 4: Resolve issues to connect your DSL Modem through your router.

1. Connect directly to your DSL modem and open the browser configuration page. To do this, open the 192.168.0.1 in a web browser-or the IP address that opens the modems configuration page.
2. Here, click the given option to reset your modem to factory defaults. You may be asked for the modem access code. This code should be mentioned on the bottom of your modem.
3. Close the browser window and reinstall your router.
4. After connecting the router, in your Web browser, open 192.168.1.1 and enter your router password-this is usually ‘admin’ by default.
5. Open the administrator page of your router and use the option provided to reset it to factory defaults.
6. Now, return to the Setup page of your router, select login type as PPP0E, and then enter the userID and password of your DSL modem.
7. Set the Time zone configuration.
8. Save your changes.
9. Setup your Internet or network configuration by performing the required steps.
